If you drive out of Costa Teguise towards Teguise you will come to an interesting landscape.
We think it is probably there result of mining for picon which is a porous volcanic gravel that trap moisture. This is used a great deal on Lanzarote, as there is very little rain and picon will absorb the moisture deposited by dew during the night, and so it is used to cover gardens and also the many grape vines that cover Lanzarote.
The lanscepe is of standing rocks and has a mountain in the background. We had to stop to take a look and photographs. As with most landscape features it is much more fascinating when you are there in person.
