The main Football team on the island is UD Lanzarote who play in Aricife. They play in Segunda División B, Group 1 where they have been for some time.
The stadium is called Ciudad Deportiva, and is located only about 100 yards from the main bus terminal in Aricife, the capital of Lanzarote, and so it is easy to get to from all the resorts on the island. The stadium seats around 7,000.
If you want to go to a home game they kick off at 11am normally, and they play on Sundays. The cost is €12 for adults, €5 for pensioners and those aged 12-17, and free for the under 12 year olds.
Watching football is different here as generally there are very few away supporters, some of the teams in this league are in mainland Spain and an overnight stay would probably be necessary! However, due to their promotion at the end of last season, UD Fuerteventura are in the same division. Fuerteventura is only a short ferry ride away these fixtures create very lively game and even though there is no football hooliganism, there is always some lively crowd banter with the banging of drums and heckling. These games always have the presence of the armed police,(they are always armed but I have never heard of a shot being fired on any occasion) which adds interest for the tourists! Don't let that put you off it is quite safe for even young children!
They had a derby game against UD Fuerteventura recently on the 13 January 2008. The thirteenth proved to be unlucky as Lanzarote lost 2.1.
