At the Cueva de los Verdes, Green Cave, you will get a guided tour of part of longest volcanic tube in the world, which was formed when the Montaña La Corona erupted three or four thousand years ago on Lanzarote.
The lighting in the caves has been very well designed to produce a natural spectacular image of the cave walls, and there are also some amazing acoustic effects.
The cave was used by the Guanches, who were the aboriginal people who used to inhabit the Canary Islands. Occasionally pirates would visit the island to steal food and even to take slaves and the caves provided a good hiding place.
The tours of the cave take just under an hour and are well worth the visit as the effects are quite spectacular and at the end you will be introduced to the secret of the caves, of which you will be sworn to secrecy!
Walking around involves a couple of steep bits and a couple of feet where the roof is low, but unless you are very claustrophobic you won't have any difficulty as there are also some wide open spaces.
The cave is open every day from 8-6pm and costs €8 per person.
Cueva de los Verdes is quite close to the Jameos de Agua .
